Series: Apartment Therapy’s January Cure

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014!!! Hope your holidays were jolly, blessed and filled with good food, family, and friends.

How cool is this?? We’re fortunate that we were able to move in together right before the new year. It’s helped us downsize and really edit the items we’ve accumulated. Like I’ve told you before, I’m an Apartment Therapy (AT) stalker so when I saw this year’s January Cure coming up, I jumped on board. If you’re not familiar, check it out here: The January Cure

 Assignment #1 – Create a project list:

Entryway = space for keys and mail, bench to sit down on to put on winter boots, new lightbulbs
Bathroom= new shower curtain, new rug
Bedroom= declutter shoes, organize clothes, new headboard
Dining/Living Room= bookshelf, organizing important papers, create space for home office

 Solutions:

Entryway= buy hooks, find bench, replace lightbulbs with extra bulbs from coat closet
Bathroom= Buy or create new shower curtain, find new rug or wash and revitalize the old one
Bedroom= buy materials for handmade headboard- wood, foam, batting, and fabric
Dining/Living= use bookshelf for storage after organizing

Assignment #2:  Buy Flowers, Vacuum & Mop, Gather Earth Friendly Cleaners

Awww, that’s so cute. No big deal, I can buy some flowers. Even though my favorite (tulips) aren’t in season yet but I’ll see what I can pick up. I do have an empty vase or two laying around.

-Vacuum and Mop- Done! The greatest thing about hardwood floors? Only sweeping and mopping necessary.
-Earth friendly cleaners- I think I’m just going to use the cleaning solutions we already have. No sense spending more money when we don’t have to.

 BAM! That was easy! lol

So, AT says, “Stay calm, just observe and make your list. We’ll have plenty of time to focus on the “doing” later and – don’t worry – the intention is not for everything on your list to be completed this month. You are really just assessing your home in full right now, creating a master plan of goals, both short and long term, to work on over the coming year.”

HA! That is easier said than done! As I was writing up the list, it took everything inside me to not just grab a few lightbulbs or want to rush out and buy some new items. But, I’m going to follow directions as much as possible! We’ll see how that turns out.

If you’ve decided to join AT’s January Cure, let us know in the comment box.

P.S We’ve decided to turn this into a series, so be on the lookout for more posts for the January Cure. All direct quotes and instructions from Apartment Therapy (AT) will be in orange italics.
